Sheikh Ahmed Ashmawi

 Background

The late Sheikh Ahmed Ashmawi established SAM in 1947. The founder was born in 1900 and passed away in 1960 in Jeddah. He was considered by many to be one of the leading Saudi pioneers who participated in the development of the Saudi economy. He was, God rests his soul, an intelligent and determined person, visionary for his time. His interpersonal communication skills encouraged foreign firms to come to Saudi Arabia. He was known for his genuine affection and his patriotism. Also, he was known for his good upbringing and manners all his life. His friends and colleagues from all walks of life reciprocated with their respects friendship.

In 1960 after Sheikh Ahmed passed away, the Shareholders decided to elect his eldest son Sheikh Mohamed Ahmed Ashmawi, to be Chairman of the Company. He took responsibility of the Company after completing his education in England with his late brother Sheikh Issam Ahmed Ashmawi (God rest his soul) continuing his father’s legacy. Sheikh Mohamed applied the business concepts, that he had learnt.

Sheikh Mohamed expanded and arranged partnerships and sponsorships with major global companies to provide necessary goods and services to Saudi Arabia during the country’s development. In the wake of SAM’s expansion, the Chairman established more regional and local branches most notably Riyadh and Alkhobar to facilitate the Company’s growth in those provinces. Under the Chairman’s careful leadership the Company enjoyed growth year after year. Still not satisfied, the Chairman furthered this successful growth to a newer and higher level.
